Note - the prices listed above are based on the 2010 season.Back to TopWho will instruct and coach the cheerleaders?CVYCA offers the best recreational cheerleading and tumbling instruction in the State of Pennsylvania. Cheerleading instruction is provided by the award winning CVHS Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders under the leadership of experienced adults. Who do CVYCA Cheerleaders cheer for?Age-appropriate teams cheer for Cumberland Valley Youth Basketball Association (CVYBA) teams. CVYBA is a recreational basketball program. Basketball games are typically Saturdays and Sundays beginning in December and end in late February. Back to TopCan you explain the cheerleading program for G2&U - the Minis?This is an “introduction to cheerleading.” No previous experience required. Mini Cheerleaders participate in community events (i.e., Mechanicsburg Parade and exhibition at a local competition). Children in G2&U do not attend skills evaluations in June. They are assigned to Mini teams based on the elementary school they attend. In August, Mini cheerleaders practice on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. After school begins, Mini teams practice one or two night per week. The Minis finish in early November. Back to TopWhen do teams practice?In August, G2&U Mini teams practice 3 nights per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays) and 1 - 2 night per week after school starts. All other teams practice 3 nights per week in August (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays) and 2-3 nights per week after school starts. Teams do not typically practice on Fridays. Back to TopWhere do teams practice?"Participants on Competition Teams practice one day per week at a local gym on a spring floor - USA Starz, Viper PIT, etc. for a minimal fee ($35.00 for fall and winter season for 1.5 hour weekly sessions).
Should my child take additional tumbling lessons?Tumbling is an important element of cheerleading. We recommend that all cheerleaders interested in advancing their tumbling skills contact a local gym for additional tumbling instruction. Alphabetical list of gyms in our area:
Back to TopDo all participants have to attend skills evaluations?Students who will be in kindergarten, 1st grade, or 2nd grade in the fall do not have their skills evaluated, unless they have advanced tumbling skills and want to be considered for the G4&U team. Students currently in 2nd – 7th grade will be evaluated at tryouts and assigned to a team based on level of interest and individual ability. All participants are assigned to a team. Back to TopWhen and where are skills evaluations?Evaluations will occur in late May early June. Evaluations are held at Cumberland Valley High School Auxiliary Gym. Parents are asked to attend an informational meeting the first night of evaluations. Back to TopWhen are competitions?Fall teams (G4&U, G6&U, and G8&U) compete from October into December at approximately 3-5 local competitions. The fall/winter teams compete from October through March at approximately 8-10 competitions. Competitions are typically on Saturdays, however some competitions may be held on Sundays. Back to TopWhat major competitions has CVYCA won?CVYCA teams have won mant titles: State Champions, All Spirit National Champions, Reach the Beach National Champions, Battle at the Capital National Champions, and US Finalists.
Back to TopWill there be fundraising?CVYCA will conduct 2 major program fundraisers to raise money for additional uniforms, competition expenses, and gym rental fees.
Other fundraising opportunities for individual families will be available later in the year to offset out-of-pocket expenses for competition co-pays and hotel expenses.
